Ground Calcium Carbonate (GCC) is one of the most widely used industrial fillers. The choice between coated (surface-treated with stearic acid) and uncoated grades fundamentally affects processing behaviour, dispersion and end-product performance.
Uncoated GCC
Best for applications where hydrophilic surface is acceptable: paints, paper coating, animal feed, and construction materials. Lower cost, easier wet dispersion in water-based systems.
Coated GCC
Stearic acid treatment makes particles hydrophobic — essential for PVC pipe and profile extrusion, PP/PE masterbatches, and rubber compounding where moisture absorption causes defects.
How to specify in your RFQ
- State coating type (stearic acid % by weight)
- Particle size (d50, top cut)
- Brightness (ISO 2470) and oil absorption
- Target application (PVC, paint, paper, food)
